Optima Driver Training’s philosophy is that only the best will do…. Advanced Driving is to be the best.

The aim of Advanced Driving is to raise driving standards by increasing the competence of drivers. The Transport and Road Safety Laboratory determined that Advanced motorists have between a 50% to 70% lower accident rate (source reference TRSL).

Advanced driving is the ability to control the position and speed of a vehicle safely, systematically and smoothly, using road and traffic conditions to make reasonable progress unobtrusively, with skill and responsibility. The skill requires a positive but courteous attitude and a high standard of driving competence based on concentration, effective all round observation, anticipation and planning. This must be coordinated with good handling skills. The vehicle should always be in the right place on the road at the right time, travelling at the right speed with the correct gear engaged and which can always be stopped safely in the distance that can be seen to be clear.

There are various advantages to becoming an Advanced Driver:-

• Higher driving standards can reduce the likelihood of an accident. 70% of drivers who received Advanced Driving Training show safer skills (Brunell University 2006).
• They drive more economically, so less wear and tear on your engine and components (cheaper motoring !)
• Less stress on the car also means less fuel consumption.
• You will be an all round safer, and more competent motorist, much more aware of what is going on around you.
• You will be more skillful behind the wheel - becoming more observant and progressive. Generally an Advanced Driver is a more “progressive” driver
  
• Advanced Drivers should be less likely to pick up penalty points for bad driving.

Advanced driving tests are offered by three main institutions; IAM (Institute of Advanced Motorists), Rospa (Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents) and DIAmond advanced driving. These advanced courses are specific to the individual body. Optima Driver Training instructors have qualifications in each of these so are able to advise on the best course for you. As a result, you will receive the most relevant training and become a more confident, qualified and safer driver.
